A fresh, new-to-us brand of accessories and Art to Wear jackets arrived at the shop this weekend, and we want to take some time to share our love of this fabulous company with you! The Anchal Project is a nonprofit that uses design and collaboration to provide economic opportunities for marginalized women to empower themselves through the creation of sustainable products, holistic programs, and global market access.
Anchal produces eco-friendly designs that are handcrafted by skilled woman artisans who use organic cotton, recycled materials and non-toxic dyes. Each artisan receives a living wage verified by the Fair Trade Federation and additional benefits like skills training, educational workshops, health services and more. This comprehensive approach fosters confidence, independence and creativity, enabling financial empowerment for the artisans and project assistants.

One of the first products that caught our eye from Anchal were these darling zipper pouches. As makers, we love that each one has hand stitched details, giving personality to these stylish (not to mention versatile!) little bags. We think they're perfect for storing knitting notions, but they're also great for stashing all kinds of bits and bobs. Use these as a clutch, or toss them in a larger tote or project bag to keep small essentials organized.
We currently stock two varieties of pouches from Anchal: the Eclipse Pouch (shown above, right) and the Checkered Pouch (shown above, left). Both styles are made with 1 layer of 100% organic cotton twill and lined with canvas for extra structure. Every piece features intricate kantha stitching and is finished off with a lead-free YKK gold-tone metal zipper closure and playful tassel zipper pull.
Next up we have the Anchal Checkered Canvas Tote Bag; featuring a bold checkered design and a sturdy canvas lining, it's both stylish and practical. An interior slip pocket keeps your phone or keys handy, while comfortable cotton straps make it easy to carry. Spacious and versatile, this tote is perfect for farmers markets, as a project bag (ahem, hello sweater knitters!) or even as an overnight bag. We currently have 3 colorways of this tote in stock.

If you're still searching for the perfect bag, have you considered a mini backpack? These cuties are adorned with tiny hand-embroidered stitchwork for an artisanal touch of flair and texture. The spacious main zippered compartment includes an interior slip pocket ideal for lip balm or other small essentials. Possibly the most amazing pieces we got from Anchal are the jackets. We picked a few curated styles to stock up on, but the show stopper is this artisan-crafted Petal Cocoon Quilted Jacket. Each piece features a playful combination of new appliqué techniques and organic fluid patchwork, resulting in a whimsical and fun design. Boasting 23 appliqué petals and 6 layers of organic cotton, this quilted floral jacket is meticulously hand-stitched for over 20 hours. With playful and colorful petal-shaped details, it will turn heads and make you stand out in any room. Plus, the relaxed cocoon silhouette and 2 hidden side pockets add a touch of convenience to this already unique piece.
