Spring Retreat Recap & Colorwork Kits
Apr 29th 2025
Last week was a whirlwind of new friends, techniques, yarn, food, and so much fun. We are so honored to have been hosts to Gudrun Johnston, and to learn more about her deep family history with Shetland and Fair Isle Knitting. We stayed at the luxurious Winchester Inn, dined at several incredible restaurants, had a lovely tea service at LoveJoy's Tea Room, and laughed till our sides hurt at OSF's Importance of Being Earnest. While we are admittedly biased, you don't have to take our word for it...
Here are some of the comments from last week's retreat:
"Such a well planned event, no detail was missed. The location could not be better."
"The best knitting retreat I’ve attended, and it’s not even close. Whether you attended with friends or solo the retreat was welcoming and engaging. I liked the pace, loved the teaching and the food. Laurel was the most attentive host and always accessible and helpful. I would attend again, highly recommend."
"Everything was perfect! I am in for the next spring retreat!! You do an awesome job!"
One of our attendees even wrote a lovely blog post recap:

If you are interested in a future retreat, please see details below on our next 2 offerings!
Even if you missed our retreat, you can still get in the Shetland spirit with some of the amazing kits we offer! This week marks the release of Voar, and we've stocked up on 4 different colorways curated by Gudrun Johnston herself. Voar is a nod to traditional Shetland shawl knitting with its stripey Old Shell lace patterning. Voar can be worn as either a neckerchief or headscarf, and with a single kit you can make two and give one to a friend (by swapping the shade placement around you will have enough yarn in the kit for two).
Each Voar kit includes all the yarn you need to knit the neckerchief: 5 balls of Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift yarn in complementary colors, a pattern postcard with free download code and a custom Della Q Oh Snap bag with a brand new piece of artwork featuring a flower-crown adorned Shetland lamb.
Another fun Gudrun Johnston knit is Hapkerchief; a quick and fun project that will let you try out different techniques, play with color and feel a connection to Shetland as you knit! Each kit includes all the yarn you need to knit the Hapkerchief: 4 balls of Jamieson's of Shetland 2ply Spindrift in complementary colors and the Hapkerchief pattern designed by Gudrun Johnston. We currently have 4 Hapkerchief colorways available in very limited quantities, so shop now for the best selection!
The Aert Mitts Kit by Gudrun Johnston features stunning Fair Isle colorwork knit in Shetland wool. Each kit includes all the yarn you need to knit the fingerless mitts: 6 colors of Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift in the palette shown above, and the Aert Mitts pattern.
